Free · one-on-one · adaptable

Every student deservedeserves a fair chance at what writing makes possible.

WriteIN pairs high schoolers across Indiana with dedicated writing coaches for free, individualized weekly sessions — because access to support shouldn't depend on where you live or what your school can offer.

one coach, one student, every week
Why WriteIN

Writing is how we find out what we actually think — and it's the skill that most reliably opens doors, from college applications to job offers to the ordinary emails that make up a career.

Students in well-resourced districts often have specialized tutoring on tap. Students in under-resourced communities, more often than not, don't — not because they need it any less, but because of where they happened to be zoned.

WriteIN exists to close that gap: free, individualized writing coaching, delivered with the same care and consistency a private tutor would offer, for students who'd otherwise go without it.

How it works

Matched with a coach. Met with every week.

Each student is paired with a coach for the length of their time with WriteIN. Sessions run 40 minutes, weekly, and follow whatever the student actually needs help with.

Style

Writerly craft and grammar — sentence-level feedback on clarity, voice, and mechanics.

School

Papers and assignments — coaching through the essays and reports already on a student's plate.

Testing

Standardized English tests — building the specific skills those exams reward.

Beyond HS

College essays — help finding and sharpening a genuine, personal voice on the page.

Real world

Professional writing — emails and communication skills students will use long after graduation.

Format

Virtual

  • Weekly sessions over Zoom
  • Materials shared by email
  • Best for communities far from Bloomington
Watch for: Wi-Fi access — often solved by meeting from a school or library.
Format

In-Person

  • Coaches travel into partner communities
  • Sessions held at libraries or schools
  • Strongest for building coach–student trust
Watch for: Travel logistics for coaches and students alike.
Format

Hybrid

  • Monthly or biweekly in-person visits
  • Remaining sessions held virtually
  • Balances convenience with real connection
Watch for: Switching formats can feel disjointed if not kept consistent.

The right model depends on the community — we let students and schools help decide.

From our founder
"It is essential that all high schoolers have the opportunity to hone and develop confidence in their writing skills — to set them up for success on any path they choose after graduation, and in life."
—Nadia Suben, Founder and President
